From 1 September this year, residents of China Special Administrative Region of Macao (SAR) will start using passports and travel permits electronic , announced Wednesday the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China said in a statement.

Both passports and travel permits for residents of the MSAR shall be documents issued by the Chinese government and the owners of both will travel to all countries and regions worldwide, according to the statement.

China's Foreign Ministry has asked the authorities of all countries and regions and provide all necessary assistance benefits to passengers e-passport holders.

In accordance with the provisions of Article 139 of the Basic Law of the MSAR, the Chinese government has authorized the government of Macao to issue the passport and travel permit electronic according to relevant laws.

According to the statement, the agency has already begun to provide two prototypes of such travel documents and electronic specifications all over the world through diplomatic channels.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country hopes that all countries and regions with positivism consider the possibility of waiving visas for holders of Macao, the statement said. (CCTV)
